Udd’s prestigious tie up with an NGO
Udd has taken a big leap of faith and tied up with the very first of its kind collaboration with an NGO called “Shri Nityanand Education Trust” based out of a small town of ‘Nimboli’ in Maharshtra. The NGO is run by Jeanetta Monosoff Haley, born in 1952 and raised in the western United States. On Christmas eve, 2008, her husband, David Haley, and she moved to Ganeshpuri, Palgher District, Maharashtra to manage, advise and direct an NGO, Shri Nityanand Education Trust, and its various projects. Ever since, there has been no turning back for the duo.
Udd has been associated with rural work and Warli artists in Ganeshpuri since a while and it was on one such trips that we chanced upon the amazing work done by Jeanetta and her trust. Since then it has been our dream to give back to the community in some way through empowering women and Jeanetta’s vision aligned with ours so beautifully that our paths had to cross and a journey was destined together!
Jeanetta and her husband are involved in various activities and have empoweredmore than 75 women in and around the districts of Ganeshpuri and Nimboli.
From teaching farmers organic farming and helping them sustain their yield better to harnessing the stitching techniques of the women to hosting yoga retreats that serve local organic food Jeanetta has proved that she is more Indian by heart than most of us !
Today Jeanetta and her team of dynamic rural women are designing and making hand-stitched sustainable toys for kids using scrap fabric from the market and left over Udd fabric too.
Every piece that is made is a labour of love and no 2 pieces are identical. 50% of the money that is generated from the sale of these toys will go back to empowering these women.
We hope our collaboration with them can grow over time and we can absorb their talent and dreams and incorporate them into our ever growing Udd family.
Hoping all of you enjoy this journey with us. Do shop for a cause and spread the word around ! These cute toys make amazing gifts too.
As they say ‘ what goes around , comes around ‘, so let us all do our bit !
